Collecting Moments in 2015…a little gift idea!

IMG_0802-1.JPG

Still not sure what to give that special someone for Valentine’s Day? How about take a minimalist approach this year?

I have been trying to theme my gifts around spending time with my loved ones instead of purchasing more “things”. For Christmas this year, I decided to do a little project with some family that required thinking, planning, and spending time together. The theme was “Collecting Moments in 2015”.

The gift idea:

I had each couple, there were three couples involved, write down twelve things in a journal that they would or have always wanted to do with one another. *note you could do this with a friend, family member…son, daughter, sister, brother, etc. Then I had them write them down on twelve individual pieces of paper and put them into a container. Every month, they would choose one thing to do with each other, and write about there experiences in the same journal. At the end of the year, we would all come together again and share our experiences with the group.

Now you might be asking why are you posting this on a travel site? Well, because travel was used quite often when asked about doing something that you’ve always wanted to do…go to the Grand Canyon, or Italy, or California, or you get the point! Travel is such a great way to spend time with someone! Explore somewhere new…go on an adventure!

You don’t have to spend a ton of money either. This gift idea will work with any budget. Having a jump rope contest is one of the things on our list…I can’t wait to win that one! *wink, wink! I mean, I’m a dance instructor, of course I’m going to win, haha!

Supplies I used:

– Glue gun
– Empty tea tins
– Twine
– Scissors
– Fabric or burlap
– Journal

What I did:

I just took some old Paris themed burlap that I had, and covered the empty tea tins with it by using a hot glue gun. Then I used twine to wrap the sides of the tea lid and edges of the tea container, also using the glue gun. Once the container was finished, I used the twine to wrap the journal and container together. I added the title “Collecting Moments in 2015” tag and Voila!…a fun, thoughtful, easy to do gift idea!

We had so much fun talking about possible ideas together! I can’t wait to fulfill them all and to hear about and discuss with the whole group at the end of the year! Hope this might be helpful to some of you. Here’s to collecting moments, not things in 2015! Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy Travels!! TADA!

What a great idea! I love the thought of collecting moments not things:) Getting to share and hear everyone’s experiences at the end of the year will be so much fun! Hopefully everyone keeps up with it, lol! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Joscelyn! Yes, I can’t wait to hear everyone’s stories! Plus, it gives you incentive to try things you’ve always wanted to do. One on our list is taking a cooking class together…I’ll let you know how that one goes. Thanks for reading:-)
